When to use: Use the Message Thread pattern when users need to communicate with agency staff about a case, application, or request. It provides a familiar conversation interface with clear sender identification and chronological ordering.
Accessibility considerations: The message thread uses role="log" with aria-live="polite" so new messages are announced to screen readers. Each message includes the sender name and date as accessible text. Agency and user messages are visually distinct through background colors, and each message is wrapped in an article element with an aria-label identifying the sender. The reply form uses standard NYSDS form components with proper labels and descriptions.
